Classroom Activity: Living Tic-Tac-Toe Strategy

Objective: Students will learn strategic thinking, teamwork, and quick decision-making while practicing mathematical coordinates or pattern recognition.

Setup:

1. Divide the class into two teams: Team X and Team O
2. Each team selects 3 players to be their "game pieces"
3. The remaining students become "coaches" for their team

Game Rules:

1. Players can only stand on their team's symbol (X's or O's)
2. Teams alternate turns moving one player
3. Players can move to any unoccupied space with their symbol that is adjacent (including diagonally)
4. The goal is to get three team members in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal)

Learning Extensions:

• Have students use coordinate pairs to call out moves (great for math integration)
• Ask teams to write down their strategy before playing
• Coaches must explain their suggested moves using mathematical or logical reasoning
